     Hi Cathie
I am afraid that you will find some of the information I have differs from the tree you have posted on ancestry.
The main one is the marriage of Shadrack's sister Elizabeth. I have seen many trees in which she is said to have married Thomas Barnett, but she didn't. The trouble here is that soemone has put it on the IGI and everybody has accepted it. Unless Thomas died after the third child that is and she remarried. However she did not die in Sussex.
As I live in Sussex UK I have been able to consult original sources, and unless marked otherwise the information is from the original parish register. Spellings are as in the records, dates are for christenings, not births which weren't normally recorded.
Let's start with the Brooker line,
Henry Brooker married Elizabeth? cica 1687. Children were
Ann 1688
Elizabeth 1691
Jane 1693
Henry baptised September 5 1696
Michael 1698
William 1704
The writing was poor so I only recorded the year unless I was certain.
William Brooker married Francer Tayler probably in Isfiedl in 1723, some sources say she was Gray, and I have yet to check this marriage.
Known children were
Henry 1728
Barbara 1735.
There are others on the IGI and this is on my to do list.
Barbara Brooker married William Shadrick in Ringmer in 1756, I have checked that but can't lay my hands on the notes just now. I know the IGI said Isfield, there are four entries for this marriage, all wrong.
Chidren were
Elizabeth 1757
William born and died 1758
Thomas 1760
John born and died 1763
William Shadrick died in 1763 and was buried in the same month as his son John, and then there is no record of the family that I have found for about 9 years, after which Elizabeth and Thomas receive some parish relief in Ringmer, boots I think, and small sums of money. As they were born in Ringmer, once they were over 7 they had to get support from there, but Barbara presumably supported herself, or returned to her family, and so was not with them. I may be wrong but there is no record of her in Ringmer after William's death. I got this from a local history expert in Ringmer.
Elizabeth Shadrack married John Newnham on October 11th in Framfield. She was described as of Framfield, he was of Ringmer, neither had been married before. They married by banns. I would assume that Elizabeth was working in Framfield or living with relatives as she would not have gone there on a whim, two lots of fees
Now to John
I have found two possible baptisms for him, neither of which fit exactly, so I am resting my case on this until I get it right. He was born about 1743 going by the age on his burial entry. He was obviously considered to be unusually old as ages weren't recorded in the parish register normally.
He was described as a husbandman in the militia lists of 1803, which put him in the social layer above a labourer but below a farmer, he would have farmed a small farm rented over a long period, he was also shire reeve for his part of Ringmer, a position similar to that of a village constable or over there a sherriff (actually the word sherriff is derived from shire reeve). He held the position for one year, and was put up for it on at least two other occasions. Basically they weren't dirt poor, and were respected in the village.
Children of John and Elizabeth were (christening dates)
Barbara June 3 1781
John July 2 1782
Elizabeth October 24 1784
Ruth March 1787
Joyce July 5 1789
Lydia March 1792
Shadrach April 27 1794
Philip and William (twins) October 9 1797 William was buried Oct 19 and
Philip on Nov 9.
William 1798
I have details of John jnr's family if you are interested, and some of the other marriages.
Elizabeth Newnham married Herbert Hemsley at St Mary's Whitechapel London in about 1811, (source Pallots marriage index). In the 1851 census she gave her birthplace as Ringmer Sussex and her age as 66, exactly right for the daughter of John and Elizabeth. Living with her was her niece Mary Peacock, and one of her sisters married a Thomas Peacock, and they had a daughter Mary of the correct age, born in the same place as that given for Mary on the census. The problem with the Newnham families is that there are so many Elizabeths, and so many Newnhams, there was even another Newnham family in Ringmer at one point.
Children of Elizabeth and Herbert Hemsley were
Eliza Anne 1813 presumably died in infancy.
Eliza 1815
Herbert 1818
Emma1820
Elizabeth 1822
Henry 1826
This is from memory as notes not to hand, and I only found them recently so not yet on FTM.
Herbert and Henry were bootmakers and stayed in Whitechapel. Herbert was baptised in 1786 in Beddingham near Lewes Sussex. There were a lot of Newnham/Hemsley marriages over the years so they may have been distant cousins.
Elizabeth Hemsley married her cousin Shadrack Newnham in St George in the East London. I have the certificate. He was 22 and she was 32. They had two known children, Elizabeth born 1856, and Shadrack George, (known as George) April 29 1860. By 1881 the family were in Lewisham Kent, (now South London) where Shadrack kept horses and George worked as a carman, a sort of horse drawn truck driver and was married to Harriet. Sources for all the laat paragraph are birth and marriage certificates.
Elizabeth Newnham married Henry Brooks in St George in the East London in 1876, they had a large family includin Henry George, my grandfather. He married Rebecca Sophia Dove in 1901, they had 11 children, the youngest being my mother Iris Jean born 1827, died 2002.
My father was Frederick John Smith and I have one brother in New Zealand.
Going back,
Shadrack Newnham married Esther Sandles in Ringmer on May 29th 1820. They had the following children
Elizabeth 1820
Thomas 1823
William 1823
Mary Ann 1825
John 1827
Richard 1830
Shadrack 1832
Esther 1836
Benjamin 1838
Henry 1844.
I have not followed any of the other children up, although Richard died at 4. The family were poor, obtaining parish relief on several occasions, but borh Shadrack and Esther lived into their seventies. Henry also went to London and I am in contact with two of his descendants.
John Newnham snr, and Elizabeth Shadrack Newnham remained in Ringmer all their lives, John died in 1820 aged 77, Elizabeth got parish relief for about three years, and there s a burial entry for Widow Newnahm, assumed to be her in 1823, coinciding with the time the record of her getting relief stopped.
I hope this hasn't completely ruined your husband's family tree. Please be assured that I have put nothing down that I haven't personally researched, and that everything has been thoroughtly checked and discussed with other researchers of the same lines where appropriate.
I will take time to update my tree on Family Tree Maker, and if you like, I will send you a GEDCOM file when it is done.
Best Wishes
Bev

Bev,
Thank you for writing to me about the Newnham family line. This is my husbands line and I would really like to have more information on this family. This is how he is realted: Shadrack Newnham is the 4th great grand uncle of Robert Walter Owens (my husband). Their common ancestors are John Newham and Elizabeth Shaderick. I would really appreciate any information that you have.
