Individual Note:
Hi. With respect to
this William Bentley had only two marriages. To Abigail Milliman and Phebe Paine. It was a different William Bentley who married Margaret Tracy. I hope you can make this correction.
Thanks, Skip Higgins

If you look at the dates of William's other two marriages, and his children by those marriages, you can see that a marriage to Margaret doesn't work. It doesn't fit. Plus you'll find the other William and Margaret at this address: http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=2043347&id=I4839
The Paine family has been pretty well documented. Phebe Paine is a descendant of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. The Stephen Hopkins five generation book mentions her, and her three husbands on page 189. It doesn't mention any other marriages for William Bentley. Same with The Paine Family Records by H.D. Paine.
The date of death for the William Bentley who married Phebe Paine is pretty well documented in 1800, as he was convicted of murdering her in Rensselaer Co., NY in 1799. It appears that the other William Bentley stayed in the eastern CT area where he was married to Margaret and where his children were born. He died in 1777. They are clearly two different people.
Thanks for you attention to this matter.
Skip
