Individual Note:
Zenos Conger Warren and Sarah Grace Sweet
Supplement to Family Group Sheet

Zenos Conger Warren, born 3 January, 1799, probably in Little Egg Harbour (Harbor), Monmouth, New Jersey. Birth date is shown in Nora Carter’s records and on his sealing record. She lists her sources of information as, “From Mary J. Morrison and other members of the family. Index cards.” (Nora Carter was a daughter of Wellington Wood and granddaughter of Daniel Wood and Sarah Grace Sweet. She did most of the very early research on the Warren - Sweet lines. The records she had were given to Mildred Warren Short and Ida J. Winkelkotter.)

William James Warren, son of Charles Wesley Warren, states: “My grandfather, Zenos Conger Warren was born 3 January, 1799 in New Jersey. Died in Michigan 4 March, 1836.” (This was on his pedigree list which he gave to John Riley Warren, now I possession of Mildren Short.)

Information on Zenos Conger Warren and his family is found in the book kept by his son, Charles Wesley Warren which is now in the possession of George Standley Warren of Spanish Fork, Utah. (George Standley is the son of Alonzo Zenos Warren, son of Charles Wesley Warren.) All of the information contained in this book has been copied in the past and is now contained in these Warren records.

Death date for Zenos Conger Warren in all the records is shown as 4 Mar 1836, in Michigan, exact place is not given. To help pinpoint the locality in which this family lived the following information is given; - Sarah Sweet Warren married Daniel Wood, a widower, 2 April 1837 in Michigan - no place is given. They had a son, Wellington Wood who was born 17 August, 1841 in Royal Oak, Oakland, Michigan. John W. Warren, oldest son of Zenos Conger and Sarah Sweet Warren, died in Oakland county Michigan in 1848 (Royal Oak is located just outside Detroit, near Pontiac, Michigan.)

When Zelda Fullmer Brewster Zwahlen did research on the Warren family through the Genealogical Library she received a letter from Henry E. Christiansen of the Library, dated September 15, 1954 whish states; in part, “Some correspondence is out into New York to determine if any date may be found there. The Pardee genealogy states that Cordelia Ann Pardee, daughter of John of Niagara County, New York married Zephaniah Warren and went to Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan.” All of this information places the family in Oakland County Michigan from, at least, March 1836 to 1848. The youngest child of Zenos and Sarah was born in 1833 in Somerset, Niagara, New York. Or, at least John W. Warren remained in Oakland County until 1848. The records do not show a marriage for him.

We have no record as to just when Sarah Sweet Warren Wood and Daniel Wood left Michigan with the remaining children. She was baptized 6 January 1842, but we do not have the place. The date is recorded on her endowment card. Daniel Wood’s just says, baptized in life. We know that Zephaniah and his wife, Cornelia Ann Pardee Warren were living in Oakland County. We also know that he had his own endowments in the Nauvoo Temple on 27 January 1846. Emigration records show a child born to this couple in 1829 in New York and another one born in 1836 in Michigan. (Zephaniah and Zenos Conger were brothers, both sons of John.)

The Warren-Wood family left Kanesville, Iowa, (Now Council Bluffs) on 12th of June, 1850 in the Aaron Johnson Company of 150 wagons. They arrived in Salt Lake Valley on 12th of September, 1850 and were met by William Miller, a son-in-law of Aaron Johnson. The first 8 wagons fo the train were sent directly to Springville, arriving there at 3 p.m. on the 18th of September, 1850. Those in the Company were: Sarah Sweet Warren Wood; Daniel Wood’ Wellington Wood; Charles Wesley Warren; William James Warren; Amos Sweet Warren; Mary Dorcas Warren; also, a brother-in-law and his wife with their children: Zephaniah Warren; Cornelia Ann Warren; and children Susan Pardee Warren and Alva Alonzo Warren. (Emigration records are found in the Church Historian’s office, room 301, Church Offices.)

Zenos Conger Warren had a sister, Azuba Warren, who married a Mr. Sage; a sister, Sarah, who married a Mr. Shular and a sister, Rebecca, who married a Mr. Brack or Brock. Among the papers of Norah Carter’s which were turned over to Mildred is the following:
“Mrs. Brock wished me to inform her brothers that her health and her family’s were good. 1854 mentions widow Brock all well and appeared to be glad to hear form you all. Mr. Warren and Charles had written (Chas. Last fall same letter 1869. Tell the Warren boys I see their cousin George Brock quite often. Martin Brock and his mother live and on Alfred Foster farm, he is dead an willed most of his property to the Brock family.”

Mildred has mad a notation on this information that it was a copy of information found by Nora Carter in the Library in Salt Lake. No other reference was recorded.

Sarah Grace Sweet, born 13 January, 1799 in Hoosick, Rensselaer, New York. The name of Grace is shown on her endowment card. She had her own endowments on 30 May 1856 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake. She married Daniel Wood, 2 April, 1837 in Michigan. They were sealed in the Endowment House on 30 May, 1865. This sealing was cancelled 5 May 1859. This she would have done herself. On this cancellation she also gave her name as Sarah Grace Sweet. She died 4 July, 1863 in Spanish Fork, Utah and is buried in Springville, Utah.

Daniel Wood, born 27 June, 1788 in Jeffrey, Cheshire, New York. His 1st wife was Abby M. Wellington. She died. We have no other information on her. He died 12 October, 1878 in Spanish Fork, Utah and is buried in Springville, Utah.

Please note this information carefully: This explains why the newer dates are found on the group sheet submitted now. According to the Alonzo Zenos Warren record the baptismal work for Zenos Conger Warren was done in the Salt Lake Temple, 30 April 1901. Also, that his endowments were done 16 Jun, 1909 in the Salt Lake Temple. On the sealing of couples record on 16 Jun, 1909 it states that Zenos Conger Warren was endowed 1 May 1901. (See reference below) However, when Mildred Warren Short went to the temple to clarify some dates found in the old records the temple workers found none of the 3 dates listed here as being recorded. The sealing of Zenos Conger and Sarah Sweet was recorded on 16 Jun 1909. It is in this record that his endowment date was given as 1 May 1901 and hers as 16 June 1909. It is this sealing that was ruled invalid because the endowment date for Zenos Conger was not recorded as state.

When no sealing date for the children had bee found, Ida Winkelkotter had this work don on 24 October, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. When the sealing of the parents was ruled invalid it was also necessary to void this sealing of the children to the parents. Please Disregard all the old dates you may have in your records for this family as a great deal of work and time went into getting their records straight and in proper order. All the work was done under supervision and advise of the temple officials and the Index Bureau.
