If this information is correct the line ties into royalty and extends back to Adam. In browsing through the pedigree I was surprised to learn that not only was old king cole a real person but that we may be related to him. According to this pedigree actually Coel Hen "old king cole" //, rin number 1238 born 360 ad. I’ll try to e-mail the gedcom file separately in case there is a limit on the size of the attachment file.
As I related in my history, dad would sometimes get up very early in the morning and play his mandolin. He got some complaints because people wanted to sleep longer. I’m no music critic but I thought he was very good before he lost his thumb. When I learned about Old King Coel I began wondering if this was a very old family tradition. So I present the following as a possible bit of family history:
Coel Hen "Old King Cole"
Born 360 ad
Died 430 ad
Old king cole
Was a merry old soul,
And a very old soul was he;
He called for his pipe
In the middle of the night
And he called for his fiddlers three.
Each of the fiddlers had a fine fiddle,
And a very fine fiddle had he;
Oh there's none so rare
As can compare
With King Cole and his fiddlers three.
It doesn’t take a lot for me to imagine Merry Old King Coel calling together his string quartet and waking up the whole castle.
